Testimonials For Prolotherapy And PRP Treatment At TRSM

Brian King

I was in pain for many years with my elbow. I tried physical therapy and orthopedic surgery to no avail – they did not help. It wasn’t until I was referred to Dr. Carlson that I had finally found a solution to my elbow pain. Just a few visits with Dr. Carlson and his friendly staff and they healed my elbow. I would recommend Dr. Carlson and his friendly staff to anyone who is need of relief.

As an extremely active former athlete injuries were starting to stack up into my mid 30’s. With cortisone shots no longer an option for my knee & shoulder plus not wanting to explore surgery I was introduced to Dr. Carlson. I find that after my treatments I’m back operating at my peak level of performance without pain within a couple of weeks. I’ve developed a certain level of comfort & confidence knowing that when the next injury does occur Dr. Carlson & Cheryl will get me back in the game much quicker than I could on my own. I believe in Prolotherapy & very thankful for Tennessee Regenerative Sports Medicine.

I am 17 years old and I have been having trouble with my ankles for a huge part of my life. I did gymnastics for 12 years but little did I or either of my parents know the trouble that would come out of it.

I was going through my second round of physical therapy when I first came upon the topic of prolotherapy. My chiropractor, Dr. Douglas Warner, recommended that I meet Dr. Carlson to see if it would benefit me. Physical therapy did not help me at all. I felt as if it was not solving the problem of my injured ligamenture. No orthopedic doctor would hear me out and it was so frustrating.

I work as a waitress. I work 5-hour shifts because of school and I would come home from work limping and in so much pain. My ankle hurt so bad that ibuprofen would not help and it hurt so bad that I described it as wanting to chop my foot off because of the pain. I would limp a lot and stairs, running, and jumping was nearly impossible. I was able to roll my ankle just by laying on a flat surface because my ligaments were so weak.

After the first prolotherapy treatment, I could no longer do that. After the second treatment, I could walk upstairs easily. After the third, I noticed that everything was easier and not painful. I no longer went home and cried because of the pain. I felt a great sense of healing, relief, and love.

I believe that Dr. Carlson and his nurse Cheryl are the best. Without them both, my quality of life at the young age of seventeen would not be how wonderful it is now. I could never thank them enough. It is truly amazing what this treatment can bring back to your life. My life is full and beautiful now. I hope that no one will have to lose any years of their life waiting on something to help them. I highly recommend this to anyone with musculoskeletal injuries.

At the age of 16 I was diagnosed with Scheuermann’s disease, which in short is a deformity in the thoracic or thoracolumbar spine. If it had been diagnosed a bit sooner, I probably could have worn a brace and helped it to some extent. But it wasn’t, and I didn’t, and it got pretty significant. The average curvature of the thoracic spine is approximately 20 to 50 degrees, and mine is approximately 90, and the pinching of those vertebrae causes all sorts of damage to the cartilage and all that stuff in between them. As you can probably imagine, that isn’t a comfortable feeling.

I finished my high school baseball career but opted not to play at the college level because of problems caused by my condition, but the pain was more of a nuisance than a hindrance until I started approaching 30. The pain gradually became worse throughout my 20s, and it became really, really bad when I was 30. It got to the point where I could no longer play even a few holes on the golf course, ride a bike or mow my yard, and one morning I struggled for nearly two hours just to get out of bed. I could barely move.

This is where Dr. Carlson and his wonderful prolotherapy treatments came into play. And thank God for that.

I moved around a bit for work in my 20s and had a few different doctors, and all of them were wonderful doctors and wonderful people, but none of them really ever knew what to do for my back. They meant well, and their ideas were OK, but none of them attacked the problem. They suggested doing stretches and abdominal exercises to help me support the spine and keep it as close to upright as possible, but eventually, that stopped working very well, and the pain just got worse and worse.

Dr. Carlson was the first doctor to try attacking the back itself. He never promised me anything, and he told me I would have back pain the rest of my life, but he said he believed he could help. Again, he didn’t promise me anything, but he said if I trusted him and let him put me through prolotherapy, that it probably would help.

It’s tough to put into words just how much better I feel as a result of Dr. Carlson’s treatments. I still have pain, and there’s not much I can do about that, but I feel so much better than I have since probably my late teens. I can play 36 hours of golf some days — as long as my bosses don’t know, obviously — and I can ride a bike, go to the gym and mow my yard. Some days are better than others, but in general, I feel like I can be myself again. A few years after quitting softball, I’m going to resume playing this summer. At this rate, I’ll be back to a normal life sooner rather than later, and I have Dr. Carlson’s prolotherapy to thank for that.

The bottom line is this: If Dr. Carlson can give you 10 percent of the relief he’s given me, he’ll change your life for the better. I 100 percent unequivocally endorse this man and his ability to treat and alleviate pain.

It’s not just about the treatment, though. It’s about the person. In 32 years on this planet, I’ve never been around a doctor who explains things to me as well as Dr. C does. The man wouldn’t let me leave the room until I understood what was going on with my body and how to treat it. The way he explains things offers a peace of mind in addition to the pain relief. He’s just a good man. He really is. I like to think this is the kind of medical treatment my grandfather (a dentist) offered to his patients in the good old days, when the world moved a bit slower and people actually got to know each other.

How much do I believe in Dr. Carlson and prolotherapy? On multiple occasions I approached him and asked him for permission to share my story with others. It took me years to find a treatment plan that helped me, and I finally found it, and I don’t want others to spend so much time looking. I want them to call Dr. Carlson and get better. And that’s what he wants, too. He just wants to help people, and that’s exactly what he does. He wouldn’t even accept this testimonial from me until I looked him directly in the eye and told him how much he’d helped me. What else could anyone want from a doctor?

In 2010 I experienced a hyperextended right knee injury while training for a half marathon. Additionally, I found that during my work as a chiropractor I often leaned with my knees against my treatment table resulting in constant knee pain. The injury became chronic and limited my activities, including running and squatting, for the next 4 years. I thought that surgery was eventually inevitable.

I have been aware of the prolotherapy procedures for many years after an elderly patient from my practice greatly benefited from the procedure at a clinic in the north. I was not aware of a practicing physician in the East Tennessee region doing prolotherapy until late 2014. A patient of mine is also a patient of Dr. Carlson and it was by that connection that I became aware of Dr. Carlson’s prolotherapy practice. After a thorough consultation and examination with Dr. Carlson, I decided I should try prolotherapy for myself.

I am happy to report that after 3 Prolotherapy treatment sessions my knee already feels 85% improved and I am expecting continued improvement as the healing continues to take place! Dr. Carlson’s expertise and skill are obvious as he completes each series of injections, and for me the results speak volumes for the efficacy of prolotherapy. I am now able to run, squat and perform any activity as before the original injury. I don’t even think about the knee much anymore. I highly recommend consultation and treatment with Dr. Carlson if prolotherapy interests you.

I have been a patient of Dr. Carlson’s for a number of years. I’ve always appreciated how thorough his diagnostic skills are, and how he always seemed to be in zero hurry to get me out the door. I’ve enjoyed several anatomy mini-lectures from him.

I’m no athlete, I’m just a regular guy who, beginning in 2014, experienced some really intense pain in the vicinity of my right knee. I’m pretty stoic about this, but eventually sought treatment. A few things were tried to no avail, then I decided to have Dr. Carlson do some Prolotherapy treatments. My best hope was that the pain would go from an 8 or so down to a 4 or 5. Surprise! The pain is gone completely! In my opinion, this treatment was 100% effective for the problem I was having. I would recommend that anyone with an appropriate problem give this a try!
